Art & Such ... Treasuries & Beads

Pretty, no?

You can tell people are longing for spring as the colors in Etsy Treasuries are turning more and more to those vivid pure colors ... and with a great deal of green.

jelvehdesigns included a bamboo handled tote of mine ... this one in a windowpane plaid done up in pinks, creams & grass greens & aptly named "So Ready For Spring".

Whenever I'm included in a Treasury, I love checking out the curator's shop ~ it's almost always a guarantee that I'll find new & great stuff. 

And this time was no exception ~ what a great shop Jelvehdesigns has.  She is a glass artist ~ creating one of a kind beads that are simply exquisite.

I'm not a jeweler, nor do I know or understand the work of a glass artist ... but these are simply pure beauty.  I'd love to have a dozen of her gourd beads and wear them, one at a time, on a simple cord ~ they are just that stunning.  Just look!

Joe and Handkerchiefs

Joe likes handkerchiefs.  He uses them for everything but what is normally assumed.  Dusting off seats at the ballgame (for me ~ he's very gallant).  Wiping his brow.  Dusting off his shoes.  You get the idea.  And I like them for a man, too.  There is something tremendously masculine about a man (Joe) having one in his coat or pant pocket.  Well, actually, it's more that I love watching a man (Joe) reach into his pocket to retrieve one.  And it cannot be a tissue.  That just doesn't cut it.  And it has to be of a good size.  The handkerchief, that it.  Well ... yeah, we're still talking handkerchiefs. 

Definitely not of the pop-up-tissss-ewww variety.

So.  I've made some for him ~ he seems to go through about 6-8 each year.  The ones below are of a batch I'll be adding to my Etsy shop in the next day or so.  They're all about 11" square & very very soft cotton & most are 'go-with-everything' neutrals.  And, as long as the handkerchiefs aren't his *main* present for the occasion, he is always pleased to receive them.  I hope they do well in the shop, too.  You'll find that there is just *nothing* like watching a man reach into his pocket, even if that man isn't my Joe.

Another Front Page!

Mae West said it best.  "Too much of a good thing ... is wonderful."  I like how she never ever used exclamation points when she talked.  She really didn't *have* to, did she?  Excitement was more than implied.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, the thing that got me quoting Mae West was that I came online this morning to find that I had been included in an Etsy Treasury on the Front Page!

I have to say, I never ever get tired of having this happen.  It's such a nice feeling.  Part of that good feeling is seeing that blending another Etsyan creates combining my (in this case) sachets with items from other Etsians.  This treasury was created by Wubys.  It's a beauty, isn't it?

Treasury Fun

Another Treasury! ... it is so very nice when you see your things included in someone's collection.  This Treasury is by the very cute shop, My Heart's Desire.  She's included one of my Sampler Little Quilts - Joe.
A perfect little quilt for a winter collection ~ it's bright & cheerful; done up with 1920s & 1930s reproduction fabrics in the beautiful jeweled tones of that era.

I love these little quilts ~ I've done so many of these & never tire of creating them.  Each order comes in to me with requests for particular colors & sometimes certain themes for the individual blocks ... making each one very unique.  And the thought that my little creation becomes part of a new baby's life, forever part of her memories ~ well, it's very pleasing for me.

I've yet to get an "official" order in my Etsy shop for a sampler quilts ... & this surprises me, in a way.  The owner of one of the boutiques where I have my sachets & pouch purses ordered one with her shop's name & has it displayed in the shop ... ever since, sampler quilt orders from her shop come in weekly.  Before the holidays, it was averaging twice weekly.

I think selling a quilt online is more difficult than selling one in our touch-life because quilts are such a tactile art.  Not just pleasing for the eye, but for the touch ... even a smell.  Witness your strong vivid memories of morning snuggles under the covers. So, I'll be patient & keep on quilting!

 

The best part of being featured in a Treasury is the opportunity it affords to learn of new shops ~ not only those of your fellow *featured* artists, but also the shop of the treasury curator. 

This is how I've come to discover My Heart's Desire.  Mary is a decorative painter as well as a faux finish painter & her shop reflects those passions.  Bright & pretty ~ My Heart's Desire has a wonderful variety of temptations & gift-able treasures.
