I love that nursery rhyme.  I'm home now ~ just today ~ so that's probably why the nursery rhyme's been pinging about in my head all day.  I remember Mom singing this when she & I were on our way home from anywhere.  I sang it to my daughters, too ... inviting them to play along & add new lyrics.

This is one of Kate Greenaway's illustrations from her Mother Goose book.  Ah, the colors! Aren't they simply beautiful?  I can't draw my way out of a paper bag but I surely do love the colors from illustrators such as Greenaway & Mary Engelbreit & Carl Larsson.  Their works seem lit from within.  And I never tire of the images.

I've been studying this Larsson image ("The Home's Good Faerie") for about two weeks now (since I turned the page to the November 2007).  The colors are just stunning, I think.  And tomorrow these colors will become a little purse.  Maybe a pouch.  I'm not sure yet, but I'll post it here when I pick the fabrics.

So, anyway ... now I'm home (since early afternoon) and I've unpacked & fixed dinner for the one kidlette here.  I've packed up the few sales occurring while I was gone for mailing tomorrow. 

And I've taken pics to post of one special order for three Classic Zip Pouch for Ms. Chrisie, a very patient & lovely customer.   I'm off now to post her listing on Etsy.

Driving in the rain

I'm off for a drive today ... about 4 hours.  In the rain.  blech.

Joe lives in New Jersey & we have an every-other-month-visit agreement & November is my turn to go there.  This will be the last holiday season we'll do this, we have vowed. 2008, Together!!

My girls will be coming home to me for Thanksgiving & he'll be unable to get away at that time ... so he & I will celebrate Thanksgiving together a few days early now & I'll come home this Sunday.  But we'll have Christmas all together ... which is wonderful. 

Modern families are interesting, aren't they?  Their shapes & relationships, the scheduling required & allowances to be made ... I suppose it's no different than families of other eras, but it certainly seems to be more convoluted & cumbersome.  Most likely it seems that way since I'm in the thick of it.

This is my family four years before I made my debut.  They're all gone now, which is more than sad.  Being orphaned, no matter at what age, is just awful. 

Over Thanksgiving weekend, the girls & I will get out the old photo albums, lovingly put together by my mother, & both girls will know the names & foibles of most everyone in the old Polaroids & Brownie snaps.  But they will still want the stories, though ~ the oh! so romantic way my parents met, three-year-old Phillip & his encounter with Rev. Maxton, how we teased Bobby unmercifully when his first 17-year-old mustache grew in vivid red.  I've always been one very much for heritage & continuity & the girls have always been willing listeners.

All the while, without them realizing it, we're creating new memories for them, new heritage for our little family of three, soon to be four.
